H1N1 and Dengue

It's rainy season here in the Philippines and also the opening of classes from primary to collegiate levels, this is also the season where sickness like colds, flu, and fever are common specially for children who have to brave the rain and sometimes the flood when going to school.

H1N1 as we probably all know is a kind of influenza or flu that affects human and can cause death if not given immediate attention and cure. And it was reported that it is already here and lately some cases were found in one big private school, that one foreign student was found out to have the symptoms and another two that got in contact with this student are now also suffering the same sickness, that the school have to suspend their classes to prevent it from spreading more.

Some precautionary measures to prevent spread of the disease:
1. wash hand often
2. cover mouth when coughing
3. eat healthy foods
4. rest and get enough sleep
5. relax and reduce stress
6. get a flu vaccine. I hope the government can give free flu vaccines to everyone because not everybody can afford it.

Dengue a disease transmitted through mosquito bite (Aedes mosquitoes is the name of the carrier), that caused high fever, constant headache, loss of appetite and severe dizziness, loss of blood through vomiting and diarrhea, and more dangerous than H1N1. It already become an epidemic from different countries including Philippines and killed thousands of people.
Here are the symptoms when contacted the disease: chills , headache, lower body part aches including legs and joints usually occurs during the first hours of illness, very high fever and rashes appear in the face and other parts of the body then disappear. If these symptoms appear immediately bring the patient to a doctor or hospital for immediate attention. Don't give any aspirin and drink lots of fluid to prevent dehydration.

Prevention:
Clean the surroundings specially those places or containers that store water where the mosquitoes live and breed and fogging to kill all mosquito larvae. Change water regularly in flower vases or any decorative containers that have water.

Hi Josie, thanks for your recent comment on my blog. :)

You have some helpful tips. The big H1N1 scare a few months ago in California is almost non-existent now. At least the news is no longer reporting it.

Hi Josie,
